Located in one of the bylanes in the serene neighbourhood of khar, Gurudev bhavan used to be a villa occupied by a large joint family, the Sekhsarias. The idea to redevelop it stemed from the evergrowing need for space. An initial germ of an idea was to develop 3 vertical villas in a towering structure. However, economical feasibility took over and a condominium block of seven apartments came up. The typical floor plate needed to be broken by variable fenestrations. Massing was broken by delicate fins and greens. Further, to sustain itself against weathering conditions and provide a maintenance free built environment, the building was clad with natural clay tiles, agra red stone and black china mosaic. The terrace level garden was designed to become the obvious venue for large family gatherings.
